Spend your day off with Books Through Bars, helping to reverse the dehumanizing and unproductive effects of excessive punishment for prisoners, their families and communities. We will help read through the 1200+ letters they receive monthly requesting reading materials then select and mail out books to fill the requests.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring book donations. Click here for a list of most needed books. Youth 8+ welcome w/ supervision.
A complimentary White Dog lunch will be provided for volunteers on all three days. Reservations for parties of more than 4pp can not be taken. Please call 215-386-9224 to register.

Public Transportation:
Take the #34 trolley (the green line) to 47th and Baltimore (West if you are coming from Center City or 30th St.). Books Through Bars is half-way down the block, on the south side of Baltimore Avenue.
Driving:
From the White Dog, take Walnut St. West to 44th St..
Turn Left at 44th and go approximately 8 blocks until 44th street ends in a "T" at Baltimore Ave.
Turn Right and follow Baltimore Ave through 3 lights to the 4700 block. Books Through Bars is on the left 1/2 way up the block.
There is a large parking lot next to the building and a bike rack in front of the parking lot.
