Until the Violence Stops chronicles how Eve Ensler’s hit Off-Broadway solo show The Vagina Monologues grew into V-Day, an international grassroots movement to stop violence against women and girls. In 2002, over eight hundred cities around the world participated in V-Day by staging benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues. From projects as diverse as a safe house for girls escaping genital circumcision in Africa, to reparations for the surviving Comfort Women in the Philippines, to benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues featuring a movie star line-up in New York City; this film features women courageously revealing their intimate experiences and bonding together to break the silence that surrounds abuse.
Joining us for discussion are Carole Johnson, Executive Director of Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR). For almost 30 years WOAR has worked in Philadelphia to provide critical services for victims of violence and abuse, while simultaneously educating and working to stop the violence; and Caroline Rothstein, Director of the VDAY campaign at the University of Pennsylvania, who is producing the benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues whose proceeds benefit WOAR.
