Meet at the White Dog Cafe

Join us to kick off Black History Month with a tour of Philadelphia’s Underground Railroad guided by V. Chapman-Smith, head of the National Archives Mid-Atlantic operation. We will begin our day at the White Dog for muffins and coffee, and then board a motorized trolley to continue on our tour.

Stops along the way include: the Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Founded by Richard Allen and Absalom Jones in 1787; The Civil War & Underground Railroad Museum, where will meet with Harriet Tubman, (as portrayed by Millicent Sparks); and the Johnson House, where we will participate in a dramatic reenactment of an abolitionist meeting.

Our tour will conclude with a delicious lunch at our “sister” restaurant in Germantown, the Geechee Girl Rice Café where Chef Valerie Erwin will share her culinary inspiration. The White Dog Sister Restaurant Program is a partnership between the White Dog and local minority-owned restaurants. This tour is co-produced in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation.

$40/person includes muffins and coffee, trolley fees,
lunch, tax and gratuity. Space for this event is limited and
reservations are required. Please call 215-386-9224.
