White Dog Cafe - Community Tours - Phila Prison System Tour

Meet at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, 8301 State Road - directions below, in the northeast. Our group will speak with male & female inmates as well as drug treatment staff to gain some first-hand understanding of the issues around drug policy and incarceration.

Lunch will be provided by the Hard Time Cafe, a culinary arts program in the prison that gives inmates training in running a commercial kitchen.

From Center City:
1) Take I-95 north to Cottman Avenue Exit. Turn right on State Road.
2) Take State Road north for two blocks.
3) Pass Rhawn Street.
4) Pass the first traffic light after Rhawn Street. There is a driveway marked "House of Correction."
5) Cross Pennypack Creek. Pass traffic light for Detention Center driveway on the right.
6) Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center is low modern looking brick structure, whose walls run along the right side of State Road. Entrance is by the cut out where the flagpole is.
7) Parking is available on street (on opposite side of the street only)

From Northeast:
1)Take I-95 south to Cottman Avenue Exit. Turn right on State Road.
Follow directions #2 - #8 above.

By Northeast (alternate):
Take Rt. 1 (Roosevelt Blvd.) south to Rhawn Street.
Turn left on Rhawn Street.
Take Rhawn Street to State Road.
Turn left on State Road.
Follow direction #4 through #8 above.

By Rail:
Take the R7 (Trenton Local) from 30th Street Station at 9:01 am and get off at Holmesburg Junction at 9:22 am.
or
Take the R7 (Trenton Local) from Northeast Phila. Station at 9:11 am and get off at Holmesburg Junction at 9:22 am.
or
Take the R7 (Trenton Local) from Bridesburg stop (Margaret Street) at 9:17 am and get off at Holmesburg Junction at 9:22 am.

Then walk north on State Road to PICC (about ten minutes)

By Bus:
Both the 84 and 70 buses stop in front of PICC.
