A Conversation with Michael Eric Dyson

Monday, March 15, 6pm

with Michael Dyson

Michael Dyson is the Avalon Professor of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pennsylvania. An ordained Baptist minister, Dyson articulates pressing social issues. His research focuses on race, religion, popular culture and contemporary crises facing the African-American community. Dyson is known for his style of ‘bio-criticism,’ fusing social and cultural criticism with his biographies, which have included those of Malcolm X; Martin Luther King, Jr; and most recently Tupac Shakur, the slain hip-hop icon. His reflections on the Bush administration point to a need for a new moral leadership in this country, both within the church and in the larger community.
