Storytelling

Partners in Parenthood

Monday, March 31, 7:30pm

Until last August, PA law did not allow gay couples to adopt a partner’s child. Overturning a lower-court ruling, a decision of the state Supreme Court now allows second-parent adoption and grants a number of legal rights to these children, including Social Security and health benefits, and inheritance rights. We will be joined by two couples who will share their stories of parenting as same-sex partners. Andrew Altman and his partner, Leon Chudzinski, have a 19-month-old son, Berel; Claire Baker, former Executive Director of the Philadelphia’s William Way Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Community Center, and her partner, Jennifer Raison are raising their 16-month-old son, Corley together. They will join us to tell their stories.

They also provide a forum to exchange perspectives at a personal level on experiences such as war, civil rights marches, parenting issues, and illness.

Optional à la carte dinner at 6pm is followed by storytelling at 7:30pm. Reservations recommended (215) 386-9224. Open seating at bar for drinks, snacks or desserts. Singles welcome at group tables.
