Customers and staff of the White Dog visited Cuba this fall as part of the White Dog Cafe’s International Sister Restaurant Project, “Table for Six Billion, Please.” Activities included a bicycle tour of Havana, lunch at one of the many privately owned organic produce farms, delivering medicine to a hospital, visiting schools, and traveling to Cardenas, Philadelphia’s “Sister City” and home of Elian Gonzalez, where we were greeted by the mayor, and other community leaders.
An after dinner discussion will feature Reverend Walker, executive director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO). Through its program, Pastors for Peace, it has sent eleven caravans to Cuba to challenge the immorality and illegality of our government’s cruel economic blockade and travel ban of Cuba. The caravans have delivered over 1,000 tons of aid to Cuba without requesting a license from the US government. In 1996, Rev. Walker was arrested and engaged in a 94-day ‘Fast for Life’ until computers, intended for hospitals in Cuba and seized by U.S. authorities, were released and subsequently delivered to Cuba.
5pm Slide Show and Video Presentation - Judy will show her slides from the trip and Bob Fleischer, TV Technical Director for Fox/Philadelphia and visual storyteller for the White Dog Cuba 2000 trip, will show his video documentary of the trip.
