With humor and chutzpah, Sundance Award winner "Blue Vinyl" documents the truth about 14.5 billion pounds of vinyl produced in North America yearly to make toys, sports equipment, food packaging, car parts and building materials including vinyl siding - releasing cancer causing dioxins as a production by-product.
The vinyl industry withheld evidence that their product caused multiple types of cancers resulting in deaths of plant workers and area residents. Because of this negligence, Italian vinyl industry executives were prosecuted (and later acquitted) on 150 counts of manslaughter for their employees deaths.
William Smedley, regional coordinator for "Blue Vinyl" and Executive Director of GreenWatch, a national non-profit working with communities to investigate environmental problems, will join us.
Film begins at 6:30pm, followed by discussion and is free. "Blue Vinyl" runs 95 mins and is followed by discussion. Dinner, Bar and Grill and Dessert menus, as well as beverage service will be available before, during, and after the films.
