Predatory Lending:
The ‘Crack Cocaine’ of Housing

This disturbing phenomenon which has allowed lenders to prey on the poor has caught the attention of advocates, journalists and policy makers all over the country.

Ackelsburg, head of consumer work at Community Legal Services, will explain the practices that are preying on urban neighborhoods.

Goldstein, director of public policy and program assessment at The Reinvestment Fund, will summarize his Ford Foundation-funded study of predatory lending in Philadelphia.

Harding, an elderly homeowner from North Philadelphia, will describe how her need for money to repair the rowhouse she purchased for $7,500 resulted in a costly $35,000 predatory loan.

Table Talk Reservations

Table Talks at 6pm include a three course dinner, followed by speaker and discussion from 7:30-9pm. $30 per person, includes tax and gratuity. Cash bar. Senior citizens (over 65) and full-time students $25 with advance notification.

Student Stand By Policy: Students can call (215) 386-9224 between 4 - 5:30pm on event days for available seating at 6pm for dinner ($15) or to attend the discussion only at 7:30 (free).
