This tour looks at two mosaic mural projects that have served as tools for personal healing and community transformation. We will have the opportunity to meet with artists and community leaders who will speak from their experience.
The Susquehanna / Dolphin Subway Art Project began as a SEPTA commission awarded to Lynn Denton which she expanded through additional funding to encompass 3 ceramic mosaics on both sides of the station and designs of 170 neighborhood children.
Garden for a Recovering World is a collaboration of artist Lynn Denton, New Jerusalem Now, a residential addiction recovery community in North Philadelphia, neighborhood children, and the Arts and Spirituality Center. This large permanent environment consists of a 750 square foot tile mosaic. The Garden not only is an incredibly unique and outstanding work of art, it is also a wellspring of inspiration as it reflects the hopes, aspirations and whimsical spirit of the children and adults who created them and will provide a community gathering place for years to come.
The tour will conclude with lunch at the White Dog Cafe. Discussion during lunch will be lead by Susan Teegen-Case, M.Div., founder and director of The Arts and Spirituality Center, a non-sectarian, multi-cultural organization whose mission is to facilitate healing and transformation through the arts and spiritual expression.
