The Wall Murals of Northern Ireland
Monday, September 22, 7:30pm
Jane Golden, Director of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program returned from an Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship to Ireland - the North and the South. She will give a slide presentation about the murals of Northern Ireland - their origins, social impact and aesthetic dimensions. The murals have a raw explosive power that connects deeply to the community and the history of the country. In addition, Ms. Golden will discuss aspects of the trip that tie in with her work at home - the criminal justice system, community development and art projects for youth at risk. Art as a vehicle for social change is a prominent theme. A tangible outcome of this journey will be a visit from a muralist from Northern Ireland and eventually a major mural project in Belfast.
