Have a Perfect Day, Ellen Powell Tiberino, 1992

Fall Walk through Powelton Village

Saturday, October 14, 9am

9:00 am - Meet at the White Dog for coffee and muffins.

9:30 am - We'll take a leisurely stroll through the nearby Powelton neighborhood, developed mainly between 1850 and 1900 as Philadelphia's first bedroom suburb. In addition to its diverse Victorian architectural heritage, Powelton enjoys a long-lived reputation for tolerance, neighborliness, and social activism. The tour will be led by Don Matzkin, architect, community gadfly and Powelton resident for over 40 years.

The walk will feature a visit to and guided tour of the Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum. A graduate of the PA Academy of the Fine Arts, Ellen Tiberino is one of Philadelphia's most respected artists - the first to have a solo exhibit at the African American Museum in 1977. When she died in 1992, her family and friends turned her home into a modest museum -'part village commune, part shrine, part artist's studio.' The museum houses her work as well as that of other contemporary American artists and family members, including her husband, Joseph, a painter himself and a highly regarded muralist.

12:00 noon - We will return to the White Dog for lunch and discussion with artist and museum founder, Joseph Tiberino.

$20, includes muffins & coffee, lunch with tax & tip.
$5 museum admission separate. Reservations required. (215) 386-9224
