In the U.S., Wal-Mart opens a new mega-store every two business days. Store Wars follows the events in Ashland, VA, over a one-year period as its residents fight to keep Wal-Mart from opening a store in their town. Arguments for the store and against it are hotly debated as this film tells the story of the impact discount stores have on American towns and cities, and on our society as a whole.
A discussion with local small business people who have survived competition with large national chains will follow the film.
All films begin at 7:30pm, followed by discussion and are free.
