Tales from Jails:
Art in Jail Tour to Graterford

Saturday, November 1, 8:30am

Join Jane Golden, Director of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, for a tour of her latest project - bringing art to the prisons. For the past 1 1/2 years, Jane has been working with prisoners in the State Correctional Institute at Graterford to create uplifting, inspiring and truthful murals with artist-prisoners. We will travel to Graterford to view their work and to talk with some of the artists/inmates on how participating in the program has changed them.

Following our visit to Graterford, we will return to The Ester M. Klein Art Gallery (3600 Market St.) to view their exhibit, “Creativity in Confinement” in conjunction with Books through Bars on prison art. We will have lunch at the Gallery and talk with Jane Golden and a representative from Books through Bars and the Klein Gallery on art in prisons.

Philadelphia Weekly on the "Creativity in Confinement"
