This academy award nominated documentary was filmed over a five-year period capturing the story of a family who for four generations, was trapped in urban poverty, depending upon welfare and living in one of the oldest and most dangerous public housing projects in America. Through the powerful and dignified voices of women from three generations of the Collins family, Legacy tells the inspiring story of how members of one family broke free of welfare, recovered from substance abuse and escaped the specter of violence in their community.
Discussion will be lead by Kofi Asante of the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation, which assists people in job training and placement. Kofi is Program Manager of the Fatherhood Initiative and will be accompanied by a client of PWDC who will speak from personal experience of breaking the welfare cycle.
