Solar Houses Tour

Saturday, November 19, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Dennis Winters, coordinator of the Philadelphia Million Solar Roofs Partnership, will lead our tour of homes using solar technologies and talk about home solar use grants.

We will visit Hap Haven’s 1895 Germantown carriage house which utilizes passive solar design, solar heated water pumped by solar electricity, whole house fan for summer cooling, and a composting system. Hap has been helping homeowners reduce the environmental impact of their homes for almost 25 years – most recently through his new company, SunHaven Solar.

At Jurgen Balitzky’s home, we will enjoy a picnic lunch and see his state-of-the-art evacuated tube solar hot water system which handles his family’s hot water and heating needs. Through his business, Energy Alternatives, he also works with a wide variety of solar technology, some of which will be on display at this stop.

Van Story’s row home, built in the 80’s, maximizes the sun’s passive heat and natural daylight. This design effectively reduces heating, cooling & electric expenses.

$43 includes breakfast of muffins and coffee, guided tour, transportation, discussion, picnic lunch, tax & gratuity.
