Fairview Gardens, a 12-acre urban organic farm located in Goleta, California, has become a model of sustainable food production and community involvement, as well as an inspiration for thousands of people all over the world. Beyond Organic tells the story of this amazing farm and its long battle to survive in the face of rapid suburban development. It draws a sharp contrast between community supported agriculture and conventional chemical farming, and it calls on organic farmers to remember basic principles, including fair labor practices, as their farms grow in size and power.
Mary Corboy, owner of Greensgrow Farm located in North Philadelphia, and Ann Karlen, director of the Philadelphia Fair Food Project founded by the White Dog to help link farmers to people in the city, will join us for discussion following the film. They will talk about running a farm in the city, the challenges of bringing the food from the farm to the city, and their plans and experiences with Community Supported Agriculture.
All films begin at 7:30pm, followed by discussion and are free.
Dinner, Bar and Grill and Dessert menus, as well as beverage service
will be available before, during, and after the films.
Please RSVP as seating is limited. (215) 386-9224
