Two of the windmills that produce our electricity.

Our position:
We believe that mankind should live in harmony with nature and not abuse, destroy or deplete our natural resources.
Policies and Programs:
Sustainable Energy:
(Click here for more information on how Wind Power works or for a copy of our Press Release announcing White Dog Cafe as the First (and so far, only) for-profit business in PA to use only 100% Wind Generated Electricity!)
100% of our electricity comes from wind power generated by Community Energy. Every year, our purchase of wind power offsets the equivalent of taking 31 cars off the road or planting 59 acres of forest (2,950 trees).
[More specifically, we purchase 360,000 kw hrs of wind energy each year which offset 432,000 lbs of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide - the global warming gas), 1,012 lbs of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides - a precursor to smog and acid rain) and 3,244 lbs of SO2 (Sulfur Dioxide - a precursor to acid rain).] To learn more about wind power, visit the Clean Air Council or PAwindcampaign.org.
Organics and Sustainable Agriculture - We support local organic family farms, buying from them in season and encouraging other businesses to do so. Through the White Dog Cafe Foundation, we founded the Philadelphia Fair Food Project which works to link sustainable farmers with other area restaurants and food purveyors.
We also hold several events during the year to educate our staff and customers about sustainable agriculture, including the Farmers Sunday Supper, the Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes.
Opposing GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) - The White Dog opposes the introduction of GMOs into our food chain and favors a global moratorium and mandatory labeling.
Green Team - White Dog employees come together for the environment.
