Vietnamese Sister Restaurant

La Bibliotheque
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Tours in 1991 and 1995

In January, 1990, we traveled to Vietnam and established a sister relationship with La Bibliotheque, named for its setting in the law library of the owner Madame Dai. Our purpose in choosing Vietnam is to encourage the normalization of relations between our countries, and to show the senselessness of the Vietnam War by experiencing the humanity and goodwill of the people we saw as the enemy. In January of 1991 and 1995, we sponsored trips led by Don Luce of International Voluntary Services. Our group toured the country from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and found many small businesses flowering under the new free enterprise system. The warm and gracious Vietnamese people are eager to meet Americans. They do not blame the American people for the war and feel that our G.I.’s, like themselves, were victims of the war and are eager for reconciliation.
