We work to leave things better than we found them. From our careful selection of food and service providers to our recycling/reuse policies, carbon offset project and work with Chefs Collaborative and area farmers, White Dog Cafe
Some of the ways we serve the earth:
Alternative Energy - 100% of our electricity is generated from wind power.
Support organic agriculture - Buy from local organic family farms, Raise awareness and promote activism about sprawl and other issues threatening farmland. Learn more here.
Respect animals - Purchase only from humane farmers, Support animal rights groups, Never use glue traps
Recycle - developing a comprehensive & cutting edge recycling program, Black Cat products made from recycled materials, Black Cat products made from recycled materials
Reducing food waste - Carefully prepare, cook, & store, all food; Give scraps to pig farmer; Donate excess to Philabundance, a local group that distributes surplus food to those in need.
Reduce energy use - Turn off lights, gas, heating & air conditioning; use high efficiency light bulbs; buy local to reduce shipping fuel use
Conscientiously use natural resources - Purchase 100% post-consumer recycled and processed chlorine free paper, Reduce and reuse packaging in shipments and deliveries
Reducing air & water pollution - Promote public transportation and biking with employees and customers, Use earth friendly soaps and cleaning products
Environmental education - Table Talks, Farmers Sunday Supper, Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes & annual Eco-Tour
Oppose Genetically Modified Organisms
Employee Community Involvement - Encourage employees to join the White Dog Cafe Green Team, an employee organized and run group working to serve the earth.
